What is A Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a term given to a combination of cosmetic surgeries that are used to combat the ill effects that pregnancy can have on your body. After giving birth, many women find it difficult to get their pre-pregnancy figure back. This is where a Mommy Makeover comes in. By using a combination of common surgical procedures, it’s possible to get rid of common side effects of pregnancy, including loose skin around the abdomen, sagging breasts and stubborn pockets of body fat.

Below are the procedures used in a Mommy Makeover –

Liposuction
Liposuction is a very popular spot fat treatment that’s used to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat on the body. Contrary to what people often believe, liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss and is not used as a treatment for obesity. Rather it is most effective at treating areas of the body that have pockets of fat that are hard to shift. This is especially useful for women who’ve given birth and cannot shift fat in certain areas, such as around their stomach.

Tummy tuck
A tummy tuck will tighten the muscles and skin around the abdomen, getting rid of any loose and sagging skin that’s left behind as a result of pregnancy. While liposuction is used to remove any pockets of fat, it will not get rid of loose or excess skin. This is why a tummy tuck is often performed in conjunction – to provide a smooth stomach that’s free of excess fat and stretch marks.

Breast lift/enhancement
Another common procedure performed as part of a Mommy Makeover is a breast lift. It’s very common for the breasts to sag and lose some of their volume following a pregnancy. This can be combated by performing a breast lift in order to restore the breasts to their previous state. In addition to a breast lift, it might also be desirable to enhance the breasts through the use of implants.

Are all 3 procedures necessary?
Absolutely not. Mommy Makeover is simply a term that’s used to group common surgical procedures. Many women find it desirable to have the 3 procedures combined for the best effects but which procedures you have done will depend on your own circumstances. Your surgeon will be able to fully advise you on which procedures will be most beneficial for you.
