Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is an innovative, technologically advanced way to promote vibrant and healthy looking skin in men and women. Now you can have a youthful appearance by treating those conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of aging and sun damage, such as excessive redness, large pores, uneven texture and fine line wrinkles, and scars. You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without bruising or excessive skin irritation. There is no “down time” from this laser, and you are able to go back to your normal activities right away.

HOW DOES LASER GENESIS WORK?

By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE THE TREATMENT?

You will not need anesthetic cream prior to treatment. Before the actual Laser Genesis treatment, you will be asked to remove your make-up or moisturizers and, in some cases, you may be asked to shave the area to be treated.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The treatment results are often subtle. On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every patient’s condition and needs vary.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

Although most patients report few if any side effects, the most common is a slight redness that disappears within a few hours following your treatment.

WHAT KIND OF TEXTURAL IMPROVEMENTS CAN YOU EXPECT WITH LASER GENESIS?

Over the course of four to six treatments, Laser Genesis can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance by smoothing out uneven textures caused by aging, sun damage or scars. You will see a more creamy, healthy complexion as large pores are reduced in size, and minor imperfections are diminished. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.

Laser Hair Removal

Now there is good news for patients interested in removing unwanted body hair without the hassle of shaving, tweezing, waxing or painful electrology. The CoolGlide Laser System, cleared for permanent hair reduction, now makes it possible to treat all skin types safely and effectively.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

The CoolGlide can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples and bikini line.

WHAT DO THE TREATMENTS FEEL LIKE?

The CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia is typically required, however, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors, hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression and resting. The treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after the treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as the result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON MY ACTIVITY AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away, but some redness may occur. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically lasts for several hours or less.

HOW DOES THE COOLGLIDE COMPARE WITH OTHER HAIR REMOVAL METHODS?

Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. The CoolGlide offers permanent hair reduction for lasting results.

WHY CHOOSE COOLGLIDE OVER OTHER LASER HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEMS?

Using the latest technology in laser hair removal, the CoolGlide can rapidly treat large areas without the limitations of older technologies. The CoolGlide’s longer wavelength allows it to be used safely and effectively on patients with light or dark skin. Unlike other systems, the CoolGlide can treat the fine hair on a woman’s upper lip just as easily and effectively as the course hair on a man’s back. The cooled handpiece increases patient comfort and minimizes the adverse skin reaction commonly seen with other lasers.

Levulan

Finally, there is a safe and effective alternative to treating acne that also improves sun-damaged skin, fine lines, blotchy pigmentation and rough skin patches. Levulan is being used in conjunction with many skin rejuvenation therapies such as Intense Pulse Light (IPL). If only you could undo the years of sun damage…now you can!

WHAT IS PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY?

PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) also know as ALA/PDT, is a treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan (5-amiolevulinic acid or ALA) that is applied to your skin and then activated with the correct wavelength of light. These treatments remove sun damaged precancerous spots called Actinic Keratosis. Treatments also improve sun-damaged skin, fine lines, blotchy pigmentation and rough skin patches. PhotoDynamic Therapy treatment has the unique ability to minimize pores and reduce oil glands – effectively treating stubborn acne, acne rosacea and improving the appearance of some acne scars.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

The treated area can appear red and you may experience some peeling for up to 7 days following treatment. Mild swelling can occur around the lip or eye area. If swelling occurs it is usually temporary and will subside within a day or two. Sensitive skin may appear very red for the first couple of days. Pigmentation spots can become temporarily darker and then will peel off, leaving the skin smooth and even-toned. You will be advised to stay out of the sun and to consistently use a sun block. You will be photosensitive for several days and must protect the treated area.

HOW MUCH IMPROVEMENT CAN I EXPECT?

You will see improvement after each treatment. People with severe sun damaged skin, Actinic Keratosis, rough skin patches, poor skin texture, and uneven pigmentation may see excellent results. Treatment improves the appearance of large pores and some acne scars. Active acne can improve dramatically.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

To achieve maximum improvement for sun damage, texture and skin tone, a series of three or more treatments performed 2 – 4 weeks apart is often recommended.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

First, the area being treated will be cleansed and properly prepared for treatment. In some cases an exfoliating scrub may be performed. On some skin types a gentle cleanser will be used. The Levulan is applied evenly to the area and maybe left on the skin for up to an hour. Once removed, the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is performed.

WILL TREATMENT IMPROVE ACNE?

Yes. Acne is a disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin and affects over 98% of adolescents and many adults. During puberty, our bodies produce large amounts of an oily substance called sebum. Sebum, when combined with excessive skin debris, sticks together in our pores causing the pore to become plugged. Without effective treatment, these clogged pores can become infected, red, swollen and form unsightly pimples that can lead to scarring. Topical creams can irritate the skin and take months to work. Antibiotics can have multiple side effects and become less effective over time. After several PDT treatments, mild or active acne can improve dramatically.

Titan

Titan gives you an all-natural option to tighten loose sagging skin and enhance skin tone. Titan uses light energy to heat the dermis deep beneath your skin’s surface, without surgery, recovery time or injections. Since the Titan procedure heats tissue under the skin’s surface, patient’s of any skin type or age can be treated. Titan is an ideal solution for your face, neck, arms, legs and abdomen.

HOW DOES THE TITAN WORK?

Titan utilizes a safe infrared light to heat the dermis well below the skin’s surface. During the procedure, the skin’s top surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece.

WHAT AREAS RESPOND BEST TO THE TITAN PROCEDURE?

Patients have been successfully treated on many areas of the body. The most common areas treated are the jaw line, under the chin and the abdomen.

WHO CAN BE TREATED?

Since the Titan procedure heats tissue under the skin’s surface, patients of any skin type or age can be treated. Your physician can advise you if the Titan is right for you.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Although a single treatment has produced very good results for many patients, it is quite common for patients to need two or three treatments.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Immediately following the treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours.

WHAT DO TREATMENTS FEEL LIKE?

With each Titan pulse you will feel a brief heating sensation.

Treatment of Age & Sun Spots

IPL (INTENSE PULSE LIGHT)

If you are troubled by sun or age spots on your face, hands, chest, legs or arms or you have some freckles, I have something I think you are going to like. The IPL (Intense Pulse Light) technology allows me to safely and effectively remove sun or age spots and freckles in just a few treatments. The procedure is quick, effective, and very safe. The signs of sun damage will flake off after two or three treatments, leaving clear, younger looking skin.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Virtually any part of your body with uneven skin tone, diffused redness, or sun and age spots can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most sun exposure. Discrete brown spots, excessively ruddy complexions and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT DO?

The visible light delivered by the IPL (Intense Pulse Light) procedure is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots and red areas on your skin. It’s the heating of the pigmented cells that cause the therapeutic effect.

WHAT DO TREATMENTS FEEL LIKE?

When the hand piece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief pinching sensation.

HOW LONG WILL THE TREATMENT TAKE?

The actual treatment will only take a few minutes. And, since there is no need to apply gel or any topical anesthetic, your total appointment time can easily fit within your lunch hour.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL NEED?

Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots, densely freckled areas, or excessively sun damaged skin.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off. Your mottled complexion will clear.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Many patients see significant improvement within two to three weeks of treatment. Your complexion will be clearer and younger looking. However, your final result may not be apparent for a month or more.

WILL THE SPOTS AND REDNESS REAPPEAR OVER TIME?

Over time, new spots may appear if there is sufficient sun exposure. These too can be removed. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and excessive redness.

Treatment of Leg Veins

Introducing a breakthrough in removal of leg veins – a new laser that provides a gentle method of removing unsightly spider veins to deep blue reticular veins quickly, safely and effectively without painful injections or incisions. It cools and soothes the skin as it removes spider leg veins. The CoolGlide Laser system now makes it possible to treat a wide range of skin types safely and effectively. Patients with dark, light or tanned skin can experience outstanding results with minimal bruising.

HOW DOES VEIN THERAPY WORK?

The system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be.

WHO CAN BE TREATED?

The CoolGlide features a unique design and long wavelength that allows treatment of patients of all skin types.

WHAT TYPES OF VEINS CAN BE TREATED?

This laser can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins (or “telanglectasia”) can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates.

HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO SCLEROTHERAPY?

Your doctor will advise you on the best course of action, but many physicians and patients prefer laser vein therapy because there are no painful injections.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the veins being treated.

DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?

Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Many patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When large veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment. Patients who have leg vein treatments will need to wear support hose for a short period of time.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?

Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON MY ACTIVITY AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear but these too can be removed.

Fraxel

Fraxel® Laser Treatment (FLT) is a “fractional” treatment that produces thousands of deep, tiny columns in your skin, called microscopic treatment zones. FLT is “fractional” in that it intensively treats old epidermal pigment cells without affecting any of the surrounding tissue, which reduces healing time and promotes the skin’s natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells.

HOW FRAXEL® LASER TREATMENT WORKS

Fraxel® Laser Treatment produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microscopic treatment zones. This treatment eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells. It also penetrates deep into the dermis. Just as important though are the areas of skin the Fraxel® laser leaves untouched. For every microscopic zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tighter tissues to replace skin imperfections.

HOW IS THE FRAXEL® LASER DIFFERENT FROM OTHER TREATMENTS?

Before Fraxel® laser treatment, there were two types of available laser treatments. Bulk ablative laser treatment involves vaporization of entire layers of skin cells at very high temperature. This treatment is very effective but is associated with high incidence of side effects and typically requires a lengthy healing period. The other previously available laser treatment, bulk non-ablative laser treatment, can have a lower incidence of side effects and little healing time, but requires numerous treatments over many months and has widely variable results. Fraxel treatments strive to offer the effectiveness of ablative lasers with the benefits of the gentler, non-ablative lasers.

BENEFITS OF FRAXEL® TREATMENTS

  • Improve texture tone and pore size
  • Erase unwanted brown spots
  • Smooth wrinkles around the eyes and acne scars
  • Rejuvenate your neck, chest and hands
  • Minimal downtime

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Face, neck, chest, hands and stretch marks.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF FRAXEL® LASER TREATMENTS?

Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and will subside within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade within a few days. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 4 sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen & elastin, and viable skin cell growth.

HOW ARE FRAXEL® LASER TREATMENTS PERFORMED?

To prepare your skin for treatment it will be cleansed. A topical anesthetic ointment is applied to the treatment area approximately 60 minutes prior to treatment in order for the anesthetic to take full effect. The procedure takes between 20 to 25 minutes for a full face. The anesthetic ointment is washed off immediately after the treatment.

IS FRAXEL® TREATMENT PAINFUL?

Most patients describe the treatment as having a “prickling” sensation. The topical anesthetic ointment and air cooling alleviates most discomfort.

What should I expect after Fraxel® Laser Treatment?

During the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned, and it will appear pink or red. Make-up can be worn to reduce the sunburned appearance. Your skin will naturally bronze over the next week or two. As you continue treatment, the sunburned to bronze conditions will repeat. Just like natural sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally. Using a moisturizer will help reduce the appearance of dry flakes.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE AFTER TREATMENT?

Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twice a day is especially important. Avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at least 3 months after treatment. Wearing wide brimmed hats is highly recommended when out in the elements.
