Neck and Chin (Submental) Liposuction ProcedureNeck and chin (submental) liposuction is an ideal procedure for people with stubborn fatty deposits under the chin or lateral neck region which does not respond to diet and exercise. These contour deformities can be sculpted to match the surrounding face by suctioning unwanted fat cells. Sometimes surgical tightening of the deeper muscle layers is also required.CANDIDATE FOR LIPOSUCTION PROCEDUREThe best candidates are healthy non-smokers who have a positive outlook, and have realistic goals in mind. At the time of your consultation, your facial bony contour as well as examination of the skin, fatty deposits, and muscular anatomy will be evaluated, your goals, the procedure, and the routine postoperative healing process will be explained in detail and all of your questions will be answered. Your medical history will be reviewed to insure you are a healthy candidate for surgery.NECK AND CHIN (SUBMENTAL) LIPOSUCTION PROCEDUREDr. Lynam uses the tumescent technique of liposuction by injecting a diluted fluid of local anesthetic, saline and epinephrine into the areas of desired fat removal using small specialized suction cannulas inserted through small incisions under the chin and below the earlobes, and the fat is removed using suction. A machine and/or syringe provides the suction needed for the procedure. You will be placed in an elastic compression neck garment to help reduce swelling and start training your skin how and where to shrink. Neck and Chin (submental) liposuction is done on an outpatient basis, taking 1 hour to perform and is done under sedation or general anesthesia.AFTER SURGERYDuring the first 24-48 hours following surgery, excess liposuction fluid and liquefying fat cells drain from small openings. Your chin and neck area may be swollen, bruised and sore for several weeks. 80% of the swelling is gone after 2 weeks. The remaining swelling fades away after the next 2-3 months as your results continue to improve. The day following surgery you may shower. You should wear the compression garment 23 of the 24 hours of the day, including to bed at night for the first week. Beginning week two, you will need to wear the compression garment 12 hours a day for an additional 3 weeks of compression. Your scars are permanent and will fade over time. Most patients return to work in one week with a new contour thus improving your image and self-confidence.The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for neck and chin (submental) liposuction procedure is to schedule a consultation. You will learn what are reasonable expectations for the goals you wish to achieve. |
