Before Breast Enlargement (Breast Augmentation) CANDIDATE FOR BREAST ENLARGEMENT (BREAST AUGMENTATION) PROCEDUREThe best candidates for breast enlargement (breast augmentation) are healthy non-smokers who have a positive outlook with realistic goals in mind. At the time of your consultation, your goals, the breast enlargement (breast augmentation) procedure and the routine postoperative healing process will be explained in detail, and all of your questions will be answered. You will be sized with different implants until you find the desired size that is right for you. Your medical history will be reviewed to ensure you are a healthy candidate for surgery.THE BREAST ENLARGEMENT (BREAST AUGMENTATION) PROCEDUREBreast enlargement (breast augmentation) is a very safe procedure using saline or silicone implants to enlarge and enhance your breasts. Breast enlargement (breast augmentation) does not affect your ability to breast feed in the future. Most patients do not have permanent loss of nipple sensation or breast sensation following surgery. Breast implants have been thoroughly studied and do not cause cancer or any other disease process. Research studies have confirmed that women with breast implants are not at an increased risk for breast cancer, nor are they likely to have a delay in breast cancer treatment. Dr. Lynam offers minimally invasive breast enlargement (breast augmentation), using a transaxillary (armpit) incision and a small camera called an endoscope for improved visibility. This specialized type of surgery allows for breast enlargement (breast augmentation) using saline breast implants without any scar being placed on the breast. The more traditional inframammary or breast fold incision and periareolar incision are also performed. The implant may be placed above or below the chest muscle depending upon a number of factors including size and type of implants, as well as both the patient and surgeon’s preference. The majority of Dr. Lynam’s breast enlargements (breast augmentations) are performed through a transaxillary approach and the implants are placed below the pectoralis muscle. The breast enlargement (breast augmentation) procedure is done on an outpatient basis, taking 1 to 2 hours to perform and is done under general anesthesia. The use of a local anesthetic pain pump called the On-Q pump can be placed at the time of surgery and is removed by the patient at home.AFTER BREAST ENLARGEMENT (BREAST AUGMENTATION) SURGERYYour breast may be swollen, bruised and sore for several weeks following breast enlargement (breast augmentation) surgery. You will begin massage exercises to your breast 5 days following surgery. We believe that by maintaining a large pocket surrounding your breast implants you can lower the risk of capsular contraction. These exercises will become part of your daily routine. Vigorous exercise routines may resume 4 – 6 weeks following your breast enlargement (breast augmentation) surgery. You may return to work in one week. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for the breast enlargement (breast augmentation) procedure is to schedule a consultation. You will learn what are reasonable expectations for the goals you wish to achieve. |
